Chris Poland
"Chasing the Sun"
Grooveyard Records

Chris Poland his probably best known as the former lead guitarist for Megadeth. His unique guitar playing (partially to be attributed to an injury to his index finger on his fret hand) can be heard on such metal classics as “Peace Sells…But Who’s Buying?,” “Devils Island,” and “Good Mourning/Black Friday.” After been fired from Megadeth he pursued a solo career, resulting in the progressive band Damn The Machine, which he formed together with his brother Mark. They opened for Dream Theater once back in 1994, during the famous Dutch Aardschok-festival. Damn The Machine didn’t last too long however, but Chris continued playing in various projects and has now recently released a solo album called Chasing The Sun. It’s instrumental and it’s very entertaining indeed. Entertaining is the keyword here, as a lot of guitarist solo albums tend to become a means to show off and are mostly boring, at least in my perception. But this is an interesting mix where his jazz/fusion roots become apparent and his unique style is spread out heavily on 13 tracks. For all you guitar aficionados out there, it’s an interesting album by an interesting guitarist.
